The challenge
Beit HaLohem in Jerusalem is a working compound of the Zahal Disabled Veterans Organization, with sports grounds, paths and lawns among the trees of the forest. The work is carried out while the compound stays open. In Phase 1 we are removing the existing paving on the paths and plazas, casting sloped granolite surfaces in its place, and replacing the lighting system. This is our third project for the Zahal Disabled Veterans Organization, after Beit HaLohem Tel Aviv and Beit HaLohem Haifa.
What we did
Phase 1 scope under the agreement (lump sum based on the bill of quantities; planned scope, the project is in progress):
- Removal of interlocking paving, including the sand bedding layer — 2,254 m²
- Cast-in-place granolite surfaces and paths: B30 concrete 10 cm thick with steel mesh, and a 2 cm top layer with small coloured river pebbles — 2,329 m²
- Aluminium joint strips in the granolite surfaces — 500 m; 15 combined manhole covers with a granolite infill; gratings for an existing channel — 27 m
- Removal of pergolas, bridges and shade columns along the sports-ground avenue
- Lighting: removal of 10 existing columns, 400 m of cable trenches, 500 m of ducting, 25 foundations, 25 steel lighting columns 4 m high and 25 LED luminaires, and a new lighting control panel
- Connection of a food-truck stand to sewage and power, sidewalk repairs and 350 m² of lawn
What sets it apart
The same solution we delivered at the main entrance of Beit HaLohem Tel Aviv, granolite cast on site rather than tiles, now extends to the paths and plazas of an entire compound, between sports grounds and lawns that stay in use.
